International Prayers for Peace Day

Tuesday 19 September 2017

Mr Siddiq Buckley, former secretary of the Australian Islamic Mission (NSW) represented the Punchbowl Mosque at the International Prayers for Peace Day event organised by the Canterbury-Bankstown Interfaith Reference Group on Tuesday 19 September 2017.

The event, held at the Lakemba Senior Citizens Centre, was organised by Reverend Heather Topp, Coordinating Chaplain at Canterbury Hospital. Proceedings commenced with a smoking ceremony performed by a member of the indigenous community, followed by individual prayers from members of various faith groups. Muslims were well represented by no less than four local organisations.

The event brought together a wide spectrum of religious leaders during uncertain times to work as peace-builders towards harmony, understanding, compassion and healing, in one voice.
